enzymes for the treatment pigmentation that go beyond Hydroquinone.

Pigmentation Serum which contains a bio-complex of botanical extracts & advanced cosmeceuticals that act pluralistically to address the underlying causes of skin discoloration. The serum was conceived to combat hyper-pigmentation resulting from a variety of causes including oxidative stress, sun exposure and hormonal imbalances. Our serum is a high performance formula which has compared favorably against the most powerful skin whitening agents known such as hydroquinone without the negative side effects and inflammation these ingredients bring on.

How the Pigmentation Serum Works:
Melanin is synthesized from tyrosine, an amino acid arising from the enzymatic degradation of phenylalanine. The tyrosinase transforms tyrosine into L-Dopa in the presence of copper and then into dopamine resulting into melanin formation. That is why tyrosinase is fundamental for the production of melanin. The premelanosomes are then melanized into melanosomes. Tyrosinase activity gradually decreases as the melanosomes fill up with melanin.
The skin lightening complex in the Pigmentation Serum works as a multifunctional inhibitor. It is a competitive inhibitor which blocks the enzymatic reaction without altering the structure of the tyrosinase but in competing with the natural substrates, i.e. tyrosine or dopa.
The botanical extracts such as Scutellaria and Mulberry are well known for their Arbutin content. Arbutin is a stable natural glycoside by-product of hydroquinone. It is able to reduce melanosomes, leading to colorless products formation. It will also compete with enzymes and inhibits the oxidation of tyrosine performed by the tyrosinase enzymatic pathway.
Other components of the actives in the Pigmentation Serum such as kojic acid and EDTA (ethylene-diaminetetraacetic acid which is a strong chelating agent) also act on tyrosinase activity by chelating copper which is necessary for the performance of the enzyme, thus reducing its activity.
The alpha hydroxy portion of our bio-complex includes pyruvic acid derived from hibiscus flower from South Africa to exert a soft peeling effect to obtain a lighter skin.
The DNA repairing enzymes contained in the formula are derived from plankton (Artemia and Orphidium). These enzymes donate an electron to realign dimers back into healthy DNA.
Finally the unique inclusion of DaMi™Liquid Oxygen (perfluor carbons) act to drive in the active ingredients deep into the dermal matrix.
Liquid oxygen instantly volumizes the dermis by 15% to lessen the appearance of wrinkles.

Clinical Studies:

The efficacy of the Pigmentation Serum has been tested both in vitro and in vivo:
• Comparative in Vitro Study of the Action of different products on tyrosinase activity
• Comparative in Vivo Study of three products on Pigmented skin versus a 5% Hydroquinone
The Comparative in vitro study was carried out with standard depigmentation ingredients such as hydroquinone. The
study measured the inhibitory effect of these molecules on tyrosinase activity by an enzymatic kinetic determination.
